February #TPT is Valerie Doran Our January #TeacherProudTuesday shout-out goes to Ms. Valerie Doran. Her nomination says, “Ms. Doran goes above and beyond for all of her students and truly makes them successful during their time at school. Countless times, I have seen her get down on their level, figure out the problem, and fully resolve what is bothering the student at that time. She continues to show up to be their calm and makes each and every situation a teachable moment and finishes off with a little fun, whether it is making a silly joke, a cute nickname or hopping down the hallway to get that extra energy out. I have watched her transform students from unable to sit in the classroom for an hour to becoming respectful, responsible, and ready to learn students. This is such difficult, yet amazing program for the Kindergarten and first grade students and Mrs. Doran truly rocks this position!” You can nominate a #D32 teacher to be featured in an upcoming #TeacherProudTuesday by completing the form at https://forms.gle/VnGkeay5GPRptLEfA. #D32 #piratepride

Schools across the state of Missouri will celebrate the first Gifted Education Awareness Week next month, thanks to the efforts of teacher Phoebe Pohlman and her students. DESE has designated the second week of February (Feb. 10-14) for this celebration of gifted education, its students, and its educators. Ms. Pohlman and her students used the skills they are developing in gifted education to effectively communicate the reasons why they believed the state should designate a week for this recognition.
