The Perry County School District 32 Board of Education is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Board following the resignation of Melissa Carroll at its September meeting Wednesday night at the Perryville Area Career & Technology Center.
The District 32 Board will accept applications for the vacancy until October 2 and will conduct interviews on October 6 with the goal of swearing in a new appointee at the October 8 Board meeting. The appointed individual will serve until the next Board election in April 2026, at which time a candidate will be elected to fill the remainder of the term, which expires in April 2027.
“Serving on the Board of Education is a meaningful way to give back to your community while helping shape the future for our students,” said District 32 Board President Dominic Blythe. “It’s a unique opportunity to serve your neighbors, strengthen our schools, and make a lasting difference in the lives of students in Perry County.”
To be eligible for appointment, a candidate must meet the following qualifications as set forth by Missouri law:
Be a citizen of the United States.
Be a resident taxpayer of the District.
Have resided in Missouri for one year preceding appointment.
Be at least 24 years of age.
Not be delinquent in the payment of any state or local taxes.
Not have been found guilty of or pleaded guilty to a felony.
Not be a registered sex offender.
Have filed all required campaign disclosure reports with the Missouri Ethics Commission, when applicable.
Interested candidates must submit a letter of interest and completed application packet by noon on October 2. Application packets are available at the District 32 administrative office located at 519 N. Main St. in Perryville. All application information and the interview process will be conducted in open session in compliance with the Missouri Sunshine Law.
Other Board News
The Board received a parent concern on Board Policy JCHD with regard to medication dropoff and pickup.
Mike Reik of Raymond James gave a presentation about potential avenues the Board could consider in regards to a bond issue.
The Board approved program evaluations for Food Services, Safety Program & Emergency Response, and Transportation.
District 32 Chief Academic Officer Jane Narrow provided a spring assessment report of MAP testing scores, EOC exams, and ACT testing.
The Board accepted the resignation of Melissa Carroll, who is relocating outside of the District. Members expressed their appreciation for Carroll’s service to the Board since being elected in April 2024.
The Board approved a proposal from the District 32 Transportation Department to contract Purple Wave to auction surplus buses and use the proceeds to purchase a new wheelchair lift bus.
