Mrs. Buerck and Mrs. Baskin lead a "book tasting" event at PHS

Perryville High School students in Mrs. Cynthia Buerck's class were treated to a Book Tasting to start off the school year. Librarian Heather Baskin brought a cart full of books from different genres, which she discussed with students. "Historical fiction books can be about real people or real events like wars, but there is usually another plotline, like a love story," she said.

Each table was set like a restaurant, with red-and-white checked tablecloths, flowers and "menus" of books titles. Studentsspent several minutes at each themed table exploring biographies, mysteries and thrillers, romance and friendship, and other genres of books. They jotted notes about books they'd like to check out on future trips to the library.

Mrs. Buerck said book tastings help students get excited about reading. "It's a great way for anyone to explore genres that they wouldn't normally seek out," she said. "By sampling many books, students have a chance to expand their reading selections."

Senior Maddie Ernst said she enjoyed the book tasting. "This is fun," she said. "I already have a large stack of books at home that I want to read, but I always find more."
